Holding up the Cross

Friday, March 1                                 Psalm 63: 1-8
Mary Kate Hannon, 11th Grader

The first thing that came to my mind when I read this Psalm is how hard it must have been for David to be in the desert alone, parched and starving. Through all of this though, he calls to God not to get him out of the desert, but to praise him and to be with him as a friend during this hard time. My mind brought me back to when I was in the hospital with autoimmune pancreatitis, not being able to eat and having a feeding tube. I felt so alone for those forty days, with all off my friends beginning school and my mom working while I would sit with nurses and doctors poking and prodding me. Everyone tried to be there for me, but it was so difficult because no one had been through what I was going through. This is when I turned to God.
God knows all of us inside and out, what we need, feel, and desire. I felt like Judah in the desert calling out for God, wanting him to be with me through everything, clinging to him as a friend who understood me. God is all that is good in life and although life is not all good he is there for us in all of our battles. We need to seek him out, not so that he can take your cross on his own, but so that God can lighten the load of your cross by being there when you feel you are all alone in this world. Some days it seems that the cross we have been given to bear is too much, but God is always there for us listening to our every need. Whatever our everyday struggles are or seem to be we need to remember to call to the Lord and praise him for then you will be satisfied.

Prayer: Dear God help us to remember you are always there for us like you were for Judah in the desert. Help us to call out and to praise you through all of our struggles, Amen

Daily Challenge: Look to God in all of your hardships, praising and seeking him.
