Taking God For Granted

The text of the Passover at Gilgal is a short one. And one that when I heard the title I did not have a clue what it was, albeit when I read the passage I recognized what I was reading. This single paragraph in Joshua is one that a Christian reader might overlook or mistake because on the surface it seems to have little importance to the Christian faith. This is a text where we get to see a rare moment of God’s presence. The unleavened bread given to the Israelites is something that I still practice on Passover with the eating of unleavened bread. But an inexperienced Christian, maybe one who isn’t the son of a minister, might just take this passage, and God, for granted.
I am not saying that I have never taken God for granted. That would be naïve. I have taken God for granted countless times, then turn around and pray to him for guidance to get an A on a test. I also do not give God enough thanks for giving me such a great life: born into an upper-middle class family with all of the support in the world. I also miss subtle hints of God’s presence. From protection in a crash to that extra push to win a race, I miss God.
What I think we all should do is just stop for a moment. Take a deep breath. Relax. Then think about God, and what he has done for you today. That way, missing God will be much harder to do.

Daily Message: Take a moment to appreciate God

Prayer: Dear God, please forgive us in that sometimes we forget about you. Help us to overcome this, so we can become closer to you.
